Meet Kai Carter, Senior Sales & Marketing Manager, Kings Orlando, FL

If having a career in the Hospitality Industry was considered a performance art, Kai Carter would be the definition of a true artist.  With over 15 years in the industry and a degree in Hospitality Management from Monroe College in the Bronx, Kai exudes knowledge and passion for what makes an event seamless from the beginning planning stages to the time the last guest exits the venue.
 
Kai grew up in Far Rockaway, New York where he loved hosting parties for his friends and family from a very young age.  From there, he flourished as a Culinary Arts Student at his high school where Kai was involved in cooking competitions and internships that gave him a window into the world of hospitality.  Following a concentration in the culinary side of the industry, Kai then ventured into his first job as a server and soon realized that his passion was in the front of the house where he could directly provide face-to-face service and make genuine connections with his guests.
 
Next, Kai took his talents to Orlando, Florida and enjoyed an 8-year stint with the Disney College Program where he brought many beloved Disney characters to life including everyone’s favorite wookie, Chewbacca.  Following his time with Disney, Kai wanted to work with a company that believed in the same power of magical moments.  He called off the search when he found the Sales & Marketing position Kings, which mixes the hospitality he excels at with the fun and magic of a place such as Disney.  With an extremely well-rounded background, Kai has seamlessly translated his skills into the Sales & Marketing Manager position within our Orlando location.  He quickly emerged as a leader at Kings and his genuine connections with both guests and team members alike vaulted him towards a promotion to Senior Sales & Marketing Manager.  Kai understands the importance of having a dialogue with the booking contacts and event hosts and will go above and beyond to guarantee that Kings is the place for any memorable event, from full-facility corporate buy-outs and intimate company outings to birthday parties and family celebrations. When asked about his career with Kings, Kai commented “I like how open and receptive we are to trying new things along with the sense of empowerment you feel for making smart choices. They gave me a chance to prove myself.”  This statement rings true when it comes to Kai’s natural ability to breathe creativity into events and his confidence to make every guest who walks through the door feel like family.  
 
“When you have a conversation with Kai, whether over the phone or in person, his positive energy and passion can’t be denied.  You don’t just feel confident in his abilities when it comes to event planning and execution, you know he’s on your side and genuinely cares about your event and your total experience.” says Jessica Rooks, Regional Sales & Marketing Manager.  Kai has a natural ability to navigate every aspect of an event, leaving no stone unturned.  His attention to detail stems from his experience across all facets of the service industry - from his familiarity with the culinary arts to having been a server himself and now thriving as a Sales & Marketing Manager, Kai can be referred to as nothing less than an expert in the industry.  However, one of the most admirable things about Kai is his desire for knowledge and continuous improvement.  When asked how his experience with Kings has helped him to grow, Kai replied, “I was able to expose myself to many things out of my comfort zone and expand my creativity. Personally I grew up and took myself out of the fast-pace, make a quick dollar mindset and started nurturing what I had in this career milestone. Professionally I learned so many things about the industry I thought I knew so much about.”  
 
Kai has been an integral part of the growth in our Orlando location, executing successful events for both locally-based companies and those visiting Orlando for conferences and meetings alike.  Troy Wilson, Orlando’s Director of Operations, sums it up best: “Kai is one of the warmest and inviting souls you will meet. Beyond event booking & execution, Kai is also not one to shy away from a party! He has been the driving force behind countless in-house parties and events at Kings, from networking events and client nights to service industry & holiday/theme parties.  One of the more remarkable events speared-headed by Kai, was a Halloween party in 2018, where Kai not only organized the event from start to finish, but transformed into Scar from the Lion King, acting as the official emcee of the evening.  This ability to find passion, fun and joy in what others would simply call “work” is what sets Kai apart.
 
When Kai is not selling events or planning parties (or if he’s not at the gym), he can be found enjoying artisanal cheese with a little red wine, trying new restaurants, or exploring numerous home goods stores for inspiration.  Rumor has it he also has a notable singing voice and a penchant for performing, so whether inside of Kings or venturing out in Orlando, keep an eye out for Kai as a good time is to be had wherever he is!
