Meet Mr. Charles Williams, Director of Operations, Kings North Hills/Raleigh, North Carolina

Charles originally hails from Central Florida and is a Truett McConnell alumnus, where he played on a basketball scholarship.  His love of basketball began when he was young and he had the opportunity to play at Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida. During his basketball career, Charles has played, coached and refereed in various tournaments with NBA greats like Austin Rivers, Courtney Lee, Vince Carter, John Wall, Chandler Parsons, Victor Oladipo and the entire Orlando Magic team. His drive to coach and perform on a winning team brings a unique perspective to his daily life.

Charles was always someone who would raise his hand to get involved and was hungry to learn more when given the opportunity.  His then GM (now RVP), Mr. Leo Neves, saw qualities and attributes of great leadership and planted a few seeds with Charles and began to carefully water them.  Before long, Charles began working alongside the Beverage Manager and learning some of the administrative responsibilities while sharpening his skills.  He began paving his path towards leadership and he stepped through every door that was opened for him.  After a short period of time, Charles was offered a position on the leadership team in Orlando.

Charles’s Kings journey is a very special one that began when we opened up our 4th location in Orlando, Florida in April of 2013.   Charles began as a “Wait Assistant” (Busser/Food Runner) and was part of the opening team in Orlando, Charles was identified early on as a team player and someone who set the bar high for himself and for the Wait Assistant Team in Orlando.  It wasn’t long before Charles was drafted into the bar back team and began learning more about the beverage program.  After some time supporting the bar team, he was eventually made part of the bartender team and was allowed to let his charming personality shine.

Charles’s next step (and one of the most pivotal), was when he was offered and accepted the role of “Beverage Manager” at our 9th location in Franklin/Nashville, Tennessee on May of 2016.  Charles packed his car up and moved from Orlando to be part of the opening of our incredible location in Nashville, which housed our very first “Draft Room” and the uniquely amazing “Whiskey Room Live”.  Charles proved to be a key part of our opening in Franklin, where he not only kept energy high but helped to inject the Kings Culture into a new crop of Kings team members.  Charles worked around the clock to help setup and open our Franklin location and support Leo, Mr. Brett Tidey, and the rest of the team.

Almost a year after moving to Tennessee in the middle of 2017, Charles moved back home to the Orlando area to rejoin his family and the Kings Orlando team.  Something clicked within Charles when he returned to Orlando.  He had always been a great manager and a hard worker, but when he returned, he applied the same passionate hard-working approach he had demonstrated at the opening of Franklin and never slowed down.  Along with DOO, Mr. Troy Wilson and the amazing team in Orlando, Charles helped take the location from “good to great”.  His integrity and work ethic quickly gained Troy’s respect and admiration, and Troy was as committed to developing Charles as Charles was in supporting Troy.

Talent is all around you and comes in many different shapes and sizes.  It is not who the person is today that is important, but what they can be if you believe in them.  Charles joins the ranks of the greatest, most passionate, hard-working leaders as a Director of Operations for Kings Dining & Entertainment.  He started off as a busboy in Orlando and grew himself to this level through sheer grit and tenacity.

You only see a handful of truly talented leaders that possess qualities and attributes that Charles does.  Integrity, growth mindset, willingness to fail and get back up - a true passion for developing leaders and letting go of what gives him comfort in order to grow himself.  Charles is among one of the greatest success stories we have seen over the years and is someone who hasn’t come close to reaching his full potential.  He has been fortunate to work alongside many folks who have supported his growth like Leo Neves, Troy Wilson and many more that have had the honor to watch this great leader climb the mountains he has climbed over his time with Kings.  There is no doubt that his skills will continue to be sharpened and his growth will continue.
