Kings North Hills on a cooking competition hot streak!

Kings North Hills brings home the cookoff gold!
Watch out, Bobby Flay! Kings Bowl North Hills is on a hot streak ("streak," not "steak." Don't worry, we know how confusing things get when you are hungry...), handily securing victories in several local cooking competitions! Kings has always taken great pride in our executive chef-designed dishes, but more than the food itself, these wins show a faith in the creative, hard-working people behind the scenes committed to constantly improving and bringing bold, gourmet flavor to our menu.
Iron Chef rising 
The first victory came October 1, where North Hills head chef John Anderson and Marketing Floor Manager Erin Taylor took part in the North Hills Iron Chef Challenge. The annual competition held between restaurants located in the North Hills mall, with competitors including Mura, Coquette Brasserie and the Capital Grill.
Each team was given two secret ingredient for use in their dishes: Sweet Red Apples and Smoked Jalapeno Sausage, both sourced from local farms and markets. Teams were allotted 1.5 hours to complete two distinct dishes - an appetizer for the judges and an entrée for people and judges to taste. The judges of the competition consisted of Nathan James (iHeartMedia), Todd Nixon (B93.9), Sean Maroney (WNCN/CBS) and Don Barnes (Duke Raleigh Hospital) and the entire event was covered for local news broadcasts. All fresh ingredients had to be shopped from the Farmers Market with some limited items that could be brought from Kings, including dried spices, additional burners, mixing equipment, butter, citrus, and oils.  
Kings: The People's Choice 
The event was judged in three different categories: People's Choice, Best Presentation and Overall Iron Chef. For the judges' course, Chef John prepared a smoked jalapeno sausage with sweet red apple salad, containing sweet and spicy peppers, shiitake mushrooms, spicy mixed greens and fresh tomatoes. For the entrée and people choice tasting, we prepared a smoked jalapeno sausage with an apple pepper chutney topped with spicy chiffonade mixed greens, adding Yukon gold potatoes, spicy and sweet mixed peppers, baby kale and spicy mixed greens to the mix.
The battle against the clock was tough, but by the time the buzzer rang at 30 minutes, we knew that our dishes were knockouts. After a tense tasting, the people agreed: Kings North Hills won the People's Choice! Our competition was stiff though as best presentation went to Mura and overall Iron Chef went to Coquette Brasserie.
Competition heating up with a Chili Cookoff 
First people's choice... then the world! With Iron Chef just barely in our rearview, Kings Bowl is also proud to spotlight the hard work of our North Hills team at this year's Midtown Pumpkin Palooza Chili Cookoff. Taking place October 22, the annual fundraising event at Midtown Park in North Hills is a fall festival tradition, with proceeds from all activities benefiting Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center.
In addition to the Chili Cookoff, activities included involved pumpkin carving, a kids' scavenger hunt, canine Halloween costume contest, adult trivia, music and more. The event brought about 700 attendees of all ages. Kings hosted a candy jar guessing game in addition to taking part in the cookoff.

Clash of chili titans!
We take pride in our executive chef inspired menu and gourmet edibles, so as you might imagine, the opportunity to showcase some of our culinary prowess - and for a good cause, no less! - was welcomed.
A team from Kings came together to face off against fellow local establishments Midtown Grill (Wake Forest location), Irregardless Café (downtown Raleigh), and Firebird's (North Hills). Kings North Hills Chef John Anderson prepared a distinctive twist on Kings' delicious chili, adding his personal touch and heightening our already awesome chili to a new level. We also brought all the fixings, include sour cream, a blend of shredded mozzarella and jack cheeses, jalapenos and house tortilla strips for crunch.

And the winner is... 
Over 200 attendees - including locals and numerous guests from other Raleigh areas and surrounding cities like Cary, Apex and Wake Forest - sampled each of the four chili dishes prepared by the different establishments before voting on their favorite. When the dust had settled, a winner was crowned: Kings Bowl North Hills took home the gold as the audience favorite
After the tasting ended, attendees were welcome to come back for extra samples if they wanted more. Our chili was such a hit that we ran out well before our competitors, leaving us with nothing to do but meet and greet attendees and enjoy the rest of the event.
